Birthday Cake!
We celebrate our birthdays because they are the anniversary of our birth. And, like all anniversary celebrations, they should involve our family and friends. Birthdays are usually celebrated by having a party where a specially made cake, usually decorated with lettering and the person's age, is presented. The cake traditionally has the same number of lit candles as the age of the individual. The celebrated individual then makes a silent wish and attempts to blow out the candles in one breath; if successful, it means the wish will be granted, but the wish must be kept secret or it won't come true.

The tradition of giving greeting cards is thought to be over a hundred years old. Though there is no record of who sent or received the first birthday card, it is believed that the tradition of sending birthday cards began in England a century ago. In those time people used to personally greet a person on their birthday, but when a well-wisher was unable to do so, he would send a birthday card in apology. 


Birthday cards are an important means of communicating good wishes and love to a person. They carry a personal touch that makes them endearing and very special.
